Snapchat dark mode, unfortunately, does not exist yet. With the gaining popularity of dark mode and themes, many people anticipate it will be released soon. However, if you are having a hard time waiting. We will show you a couple of ways to get around an official release and get Snapchat dark mode now. If you are unfamiliar with Snapchat or dark mode, I’ll also give you a brief introduction to both. I’ll also go over some dark mode features and the benefits of a dark theme.
Snapchat
Snapchat has become one of the most popular apps worldwide for communicating in a variety of methods. People of all ages have started to use it to talk to friends and have a discreet communication platform. Messages that delete themselves give you the ability to have privacy. The app gets excellent support and constant updates from a company that seeks to please customers.
What is Dark Mode?
One of the latest trends in app design is the integration of a dark mode, sometimes known as dark theme or night mode. Android and iOS also both now feature a system-wide dark mode. The idea of dark mode is not just to have a cool interface. It actually serves a purpose. Dark mode gives you an interface that isn’t as bright and in your face.
Dark mode gives you various design options. For many apps and interfaces designed with a dark mode, the color scheme changes to black and gray. Black is the focus background. Some people find the light-colored text on a dark background more comfortable to read.
Another reason to use dark mode is the battery. AMOLED screens can display close to a true black. When the screen displays true black, it takes less battery power. This is the same for OLED screens. This is by far my favorite dark mode feature.
For those that use their phone in the sun or with lights overhead, dark mode may be essential. A night mode reduces a portion of the glare from light sources. It also reduces the amount of blue light emitted. Blue light is the hue from the screen responsible for keeping your brain awake when trying to fall asleep.
Despite being very popular, it is essential to note that not every app supports dark mode.
Is There a Snapchat Dark Mode?
The short answer is no, there is no built in dark mode on Snapchat yet. However, you can still get a night mode on the camera screen by tricking the app. Another option is to Jailbreak/Root your phone. Here are a few tricks to install dark mode in Snapchat.
Snapchat Dark Mode Camera Trick
Snapchat uses a low light mode to capture fantastic photos in the dark. If you cover your camera long enough to engage low light mode. Then take a quick photo, it will leave the main background dark. This does not enable dark mode in Snapchat completely.
Jailbreaking Your iPhone
Jailbreaking your iPhone is the process of removing the restrictions that Apple puts on their devices. This includes restrictions on downloading certain apps. We won’t go through the jailbreaking process in this post. However, Cydia is the jailbreaking program I have used.
When you have finished jailbreaking your phone, download and install a program called Nightmare Package, this program is used to put all sorts of social media apps into a dark mode, not only Snapchat. After a device restart, your Snapchat App will be in dark mode.
Root Your Android
Rooting your Android phone involves removing the few limitations that Android puts on its operating system. Several options exist for rooting your devices, such as Systemless Root, KingoRoot, and One Click Root. We aren’t going to go through step by step rooting your device. Luckily all of the programs above have easy to follow guides to help you through the process.
Like with an Apple device, rooting your phone can cause conflicts, software damage, and issues, especially when installing apps from unknown sources.
First, you will need to root your device. Then, you can then download the Substratum Theme Engine from the Google Play Store. This app is available on the play store but can only enable dark mode for Snapchat when the device is rooted.
After you have installed Substratum, find a dark theme that you like and apply it to Snapchat. You will want to keep the app closed for this step. Finally, you will have a dark mode in Snapchat once reopened.
Snapchat Dark Mode Coming Soon
As of right now, there is no Snapchat dark mode, but that isn’t going to last forever. My recommendation would be to wait for the official release of the Snapchat dark mode. With the popularity of dark modes, Snapchat will likely start to implement a built in dark mode in future updates. However, if you absolutely want to use dark mode now. The above are the only ways I know to get a dark theme, but they come with some risks, as mentioned before.
